Kulshan Middle School PTSA Committees and Volunteer Opportunities

Here is a list of our PTSA position descriptions.

8th Grade Celebration and Dance Organizes the end-of-year ceremony for the outgoing 8th graders.
This event requires 30+ volunteers!

After School Activities Organizes volunteers to assist in after-school events, mainly ASB dances.

Baking/Hospitality Provides or solicits refreshments / snacks / cookies for school or PTSA events.

Box Tops Deals with the collection and submission of box-tops vouchers - a fundraising committee!
Ideal for somebody who isn't able to come to the school but would like to volunteer.

Carnival The fun after-school event held in April. Open to all students at Kulshan. 40 volunteers needed! Held every other year. Next Carnival will be in 2014.

Directory Every year, we compile a student directory from school enrolment data and distribute it
free of charge to all student families, regardless whether they are PTSA parents or
not. Somebody has to do it!

Golden Acorn State PTA awards are given annually to volunteers, educators and child/youth
advocates at our school. This committee solicits nominations and deals with the
paperwork.

Health Screening Vision and hearing tests conducted by the school district; this committee gets it
organized.

Legislative Rep Do you have an interest in the legislative process? Are you willing to keep tabs on what's
happening in Olympia, how the State PTA feels about it, poll our parents and report
information both ways? Then this is a great opportunity for you. Attend the annual
State PTA Legislative Assembly and be an active part of the foremost child advocacy
organization, the PTA.

Library Be part of the volunteer group that helps keep the school library functioning smoothly

Lost and Found We all know what that is...

Lunch Time Activities Some kids appreciate structured lunch-time activities - come in and play board games or
foosball, or invent new activities. Even once in a while is appreciated!

Magazine Drive Our one and only fund raiser. This one happens early in the school year. If you're new to
the school community, this is an amazing way to meet the dedicated and involved parents
in our school.

Math Olympiad Like to teach math? Coach a group of kids and take them to one (or more) of several math
competitions happening in February, April and May every year.

Membership Make membership registrations available, collect membership dues, report membership to
the State PTA, keep track of member contact information. Most of this work happens
early in the school year.

Middle School Challenge Event Be involved in this fun active event in June of every year. 25 volunteers required! May not happen this year.

District Parent Advisory Rep Attend the monthly Parent Advisory Committee meeting at the school district office
(Roeder Building), every first Thursday of the month, and report back to our parent
community.

Reflections Annual PTA art contest. Publicize the event and solicit submissions by students that
comply with formatting and other rules declared by the organizers. Submit work to the State
PTA by the deadline.

School Pictures Help keep the kids organized as they have their pictures taken. Individual pictures as
well as various group photos are taken at different times of the year.


SCRIP Gathers and submits monthly orders to buyers group. Organizes distribution of gift cards and collects payments. The would be great for a team of 3-4 individuals. Potential for raising money is substantial!

Site Council The parent rep for the school site council is involved in decisions regarding the school
building and facilities, together with staff and administration. Monthly meetings.

Staff Appreciation The things that brighten a teacher's day. A special breakfast monthly? Snacks for
afternoon meetings? A little something in the mail slot? If this is your forté, please help
out!

T-Bird Times Newsletter Weekly newsletter put out by the Kulshan PTSA. School events and PTSA events are
listed. Hard copies are made available or families can sign up to receive the news by email.
This assignment is best shared by a few people.

Turkey Trot An event to benefit the local food bank that coincides with Thanksgiving. Students bring
donations of non-perishable foods and participate in a fun run event around the school.
Requires about 30 volunteers.
